The table combines manufacturers' data and measurements from Bobcat's comparison tests (09-2025).

The E20z R2 is a zero-tail-swing machine; the 302CR has a reduced tail swing. Bobcat and CAT are the two brands in this test offering a 2-tonne machine with a cab and a compact tail. The 302CR comes with electro-hydraulic joysticks as standard and air conditioning as an option; it is built in China.

— means the manufacturer does not publish this figure.

What the table shows

  • Retracted width: 980 / 1,090 mm.
  • Tail overhang: 10 mm (115 mm with the heavy counterweight) / 205 mm.
  • Arm breakout force 12.63 / 11.3 kN with the short arm, 11.51 / 9.8 kN with the long arm; the 302CR has the higher bucket force (19.6 / 18.33 kN).
  • The 302CR has 4 kW more engine power, a 66 / 44 l/min pump, a faster first travel speed (2.9 / 2.0 km/h) and optional air conditioning.
  • Boom swing left / right: 80° / 60° on the E20z R2, 65° / 50° on the 302CR.

What it means on the job

Through a 1 m door

Retracted, the E20z R2 is 980 mm wide and passes a 1 m door or gate. The 302CR needs an opening of at least 1,090 mm.

Calculation: 1,000 − 980 = 20 mm to spare; 1,090 > 1,000

Working in one lane of a street

When the upper structure slews, the E20z R2's rear stays within 10 mm of the track edge. The 302CR's rear projects 205 mm — into the next lane or against a wall.

Slewing next to an obstacle

The E20z R2's cab corners stay within the tracks when slewing. On the 302CR both cab corners extend beyond them, so the cab can touch an obstacle that the tracks clear.

Closer look: notes from Bobcat's comparison test

Measurements and notes come from Bobcat's comparison tests (09-2025), in which both machines did the same jobs. These figures are not in the manufacturers' brochures. “Operator's opinion” is the personal impression of the operator who worked in the test: it is subjective, and your experience may differ.

Tail and width

Bobcat E20zTrue zero tail swing. Undercarriage retracts to 98 cm, so the machine passes through a 1-metre door.
CAT 302CRReduced tail swing: about 20 cm overhang. Minimum width 109 cm.

What it affects: Tail overhang decides how close to a wall the machine can slew; the retracted width decides which doors and gates it passes through.

Blade and undercarriage

Bobcat E20zLong blade for straight dustpan work. Single-flange rollers with interlocking tracks.
CAT 302CRShorter blade; straight dustpan work not possible. Double-flange rollers, tracks not interlocking.

Cab

Bobcat E20zRoomy cab with storage space; wide door opening. Cab corners stay within the tracks when slewing.
CAT 302CRSmaller door opening for a 2-tonne machine. Both cab corners extend beyond the tracks when slewing. Air conditioning available as an option.

Hydraulics and joysticks

Bobcat E20zLoad-sensing hydraulics; all functions, including travel and auxiliary hydraulics, work at the same time. Servo-controlled joysticks.
CAT 302CRLoad-sensing hydraulics as well; combined movements worked in the test. Electro-hydraulic joysticks with extra functions, including Stick Steer (driving and steering with the left joystick).

Operator's opinionsubjectiveMovements felt smooth but were harder to position precisely.

Swing frame and standard equipment

Bobcat E20zSwing frame within the track width. Clamp-ready and blade float as standard.
CAT 302CRSwing frame outside the track width. Blade float as standard; no clamp preparation.

What it affects: An in-track swing frame lets the machine work closer to a wall.
